Many people with diabetes worry about eye health and preventing diabetic retinopathy. Here are 5 ways to keep your eyes healthy.
1. Maintain blood sugar as close to your target range as possible. This can help prevent retinopathy or slow its progression if you have already been diagnosed.
2. Stop smoking.
3. Control your blood pressure.
4. Have an annual dilated eye exam by your ophthalmologist.
5. See your ophthalmologist immediately if you experience:
Burred or double vision
Pain or pressure in one or both eyes
Loss of peripheral vision
Eyes that are red and stay that way
Seeing spots or floaters
Vision where straight lines don’t look straight
